This is truly an historic year for Boysville. We are celebrating our 65th year of caring for children. It is such an honor to be part of an organization that continues to meet the needs of so many children in Bexar County and South Texas who need our services. We could not do it alone. Our dedicated staff, volunteers and donors keep our mission close to their hearts.
As we celebrate our 65th year, I reflect back on the changes that Boysville has gone through. From a home on Avenue A that housed 22 boys, to our 78 acre campus that cares for over 136 children of all ages, I am amazed and saddened that so many children still need us. We are happy to be here for the children. We want to be here for the children. As our population changes and we see younger and younger children in need of care we continue to reevaluate how we serve children in need.
Boysville is successful.
Our success is not measured by how many children we graduate from high school or how many graduate from college or technical school. Success is not measured by how many doctors or lawyers or nurses we produce. We see success when a former resident comes back to Boysville with their family and tells us about their lives. They tell us of their marriages, children, homes and activities. They tell us of eating dinner together, praying together and working together to get through life. Most importantly, they love their children and do not abuse them. In that our mission is accomplished.
The need is still growing in San Antonio. More and more children are in need of placement and as we have heard before “the inn is full.”
Boysville, with continued support from the community, will keep true to its mission of providing a safe family environment for children in need so that they may become responsible adults for as long as there is a need.
Thank you for 65 years of support. Thank you for supporting our children.
Sincerely,
Lenna J. Baxter C.E.O., Boysville, Inc.
